Getting started

Things you should know and do before you even begin planning a procurement.
What you need to know
  1. In NSW, government procurement operates under a devolved governance structure. This means each agency is responsible for their own procurement, with the Procurement Board setting the whole-of-government strategic approach.
  2. If you're new to procurement, we recommend you follow our best practice approach.
  3. You must keep the NSW Government’s procurement objectives in mind every time you procure.
  4. You should also you know your agency's procurement accreditation status, as this will impact your ability to buy.
  5. Construction industry procurements work a little differently to others and it’s important you know some of the key differences.
  6. You must keep good records at every stage of the procurement to document your decisions and the reasons behind them.
  7. If you're not a NSW Government agency, you may still be able to use our procurement arrangements. Eligible non-agency buyers include universities, private schools, private hospitals, charities, local councils and other government jurisdictions.
